WorldSkills ASEAN Manila 2025

Now in its 14th year, the WorldSkills ASEAN Competition will be hosted by the Philippines for the second time. The WorldSkills ASEAN Competition brings together top youth talents from the ASEAN member countries to showcase their technical and vocational skills.

WorldSkills ASEAN is the largest showcase of professional and technical skills in the ASEAN (The Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region and brings the objectives of the WorldSkills movement to Southeast Asia.

The skills competition was initiated by an agreement among ASEAN member countries in 1993 and aims to promote and raise skills standards in the ASEAN region to an international level, as well as to motivate youths to develop their skills and knowledge.

The 1st ASEAN Skills Competition took place was hosted by Malaysia in August 1995, the first edition of the WorldSkills ASEAN Competition. What started with four countries and six skill areas in 1995 has grown to include 10 countries in more than 25 skill areas. Since then, member countries take turns in hosting this biennial competition.

Now in its 14th year, the WorldSkills ASEAN Competition, dubbed as WorldSkills ASEAN Manila 2025 (WSASEAN2025), will be hosted by the Philippines for the second time since 1996. Close to 300 participants from the nine (9) ASEAN Member States (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand) plus Timor-Leste, as Observer State — will compete in thirty-two (32) skill areas ranging from technology to hospitality in six different sectors.

Vietnam, however, has withdrawn from this year’s competition due to funding limitations brought about by institutional reorganization.

The name TeePee stands for “Techno-Pinoy.” TeePee is a robot symbolizing Team Philippines’ drive towards emerging global technologies.

TeePee embodies the Philippine colors: Blue for the pursuit of ideals and peace, Red for patriotism and valor, and White for liberty and equality; the Yellow Sun at the center of the chest that glows represents the enduring spirit of life with unity and democracy

Notably, the mark of the sun on its lateral lower legs signifies a new beginning and hope for the Philippines’ future progress. Both lower arms are engraved with the original Sulat Tagalog, or Baybayin alphabet, of TESDA, as the transformative leader in Technical Education and Skills Development in the country.
